4’s Up dominates first week of South intramurals

In the South Campus basketball intramurals Feb. 15 and 17, 4’s Up looked to be the team to beat.

After defeating The Therapists 85-23 in its first game, 4’s Up beat Do Wurk 71-30 to start the intramural season 2-0.

“We had a bad game,” 4’s Up guard Chris Franklin said. “We should have won by 50 or by even more than that.”

Franklin, who scored 17 points in the win, went on to say that the team’s chemistry isn’t going to be an issue at all this season.

“We all played at the same high school, so we know what everyone is good at and what everyone can do,” he said.

But 4’s Up isn’t the only 2-0 team. Unstoppable won its first game 59-57 against the Eastside

Ballers and its second game 52-48 against the Free Agents. Playing mostly from behind in the game against the Free Agents, forward Lee Calton led the team and made some key shots down the stretch to put his team in front.

“We finally started clicking and finding our chemistry,” Calton said.

The final game of the day Feb. 17 was between Eastside Ballers and The Therapists, who were on the wrong side of another blowout. Led by forward Tim Harrison, Eastside Ballers won the game 62-23 and improved to 1-1. Harrison scored 16 points, including three alley-oop slam dunks.

“We did OK, but we can always do better,” Harrison said.  “We’ve got to work on some of our passing, but we did a good job recognizing when we had a big man 2-on-1, which helped us win.”

Do Wurk beat Free Agents 36-34 in the first game, making Free Agents and The Therapists the two teams looking for their first win as league play continues this week.
