NE English assistant professor Lisette Blanco-Cerda will present A Rhetoric of Walking Skeletons at 11:10 a.m. Oct. 30 on NE Campus.
The presentation is part of a series, Rhetoric for the Rest of Us, intended to show the role of rhetoric in students’ daily lives.
“Presenters aim to highlight one or two particular elements of rhetoric, usually in their specialty or field of interest,” Blanco-Cerda said.
Rhetoric refers to the way language is used by a writer or presenter to impact an audience.
The presentation will highlight the part horror plays in constructing humanity through media like movies, video games and TV shows.
Blanco-Cerda focuses most of her research on horror, the monstrous and the body.
“I hope that students, after they attend my presentation, will see how horror can indeed offer us insight into who we are,” Blanco-Cerda said.
