Adam Bounds, Lizbeth Cuellar, Charles Jones, Lee LaGrone, Robin Mendoza, Christopher Moore and Kenitra Russell, South Campus film students, have been awarded scholarships to attend the 19th Annual Film Institute. The students will attend the event hosted by the Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce and participate in hands-on training for film production, staging, directing and team competitions.

Now-April 1 TR Wellness Club offers free yoga classes 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the Fitness Center (TRTR 1107). Students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate. For more information, email Brian Ruiz at brian.ruiz712@my.tccd.edu.

Now-April 15 SE and South campuses will offer free income tax preparation to those with annual incomes under $50,000 through the Volunteer Income Assistance program. Hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, 3-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 29 NW students can take advantage of free tax assistance. Student activities will have tax forms and envelopes from a local H&R Block office. H&R Block will file their taxes and return the forms to the student. Visit student activities in WSTU 2811 or call 817-515-7795 for more information.

Feb. 29 TR Campus library is sponsoring its fourth annual book drive. Students, faculty and staff can take new or gently used books to the library (TREF 2302). Children’s books will go to I.M. Terrell Elementary in Fort Worth, and all other books will go to the Friends of Fort Worth Public Library store.

Feb. 29 The current issue of Student Health 101, an online magazine available to TCC students at http://readsh101.com/tccd.html, has articles on improving life through better sleep, creating effective résumés, pulling up falling grades and finding the perfect fitness and health apps for electronic devices. Students can also register to have the magazine sent to an email account. The site also includes fitness and cooking videos.

Feb. 29 NE health services will offer free, confidential HIV and syphilis testing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in NSTU 1704A (health services). Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged. Results will be available a week after the test. For more information, call 817-515-6056.

Feb. 29 SE Campus will present Untold Stories: Veteran Series 11 a.m.-12:50 p.m. in the campus conference center (ESEC 2124C). Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Randall Weatherspoon, who served more than 20 years in the Army, will tell his story.

Feb. 29 Licensed professional counselors Masika Smith and Julie Weaver will present Red Flags: Domestic Violence and Child Abuse 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111) on NE. Feb. 29 Toya Norton from John Peter Smith Hospital and the Community Diabetes Project will host a Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) Brown Bag Luncheon 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the SSTU Living Room on South Campus. Feb. 29 TR Campus’ Leap into Your Rights Civics Celebration is a two-hour symposium to help students understand the importance of being involved in the political process. This event will take place 3-5 p.m. in Action A (TRTR 4202) and includes free food and drink, a raffle with prizes, a mock debate, a discussion panel and a voter registration drive.

Feb. 29-March 1 SE Campus career services will have an open house 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday and 2-4 p.m. on Thursday in ESEE 2103.

March 1 The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on South Campus. Students can donate 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the mobile unit on the SSTU patio. A photo ID is required to donate.

March 1 South health services and the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry invite students to register to become bone marrow donors 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the SSTU Foyer.

March 1 29 Gifts, a memoir by Cami Walker about how giving presents helped her through a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, will be discussed by TR reading instructor Christi Duque from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the TR Library (TREF 2302).

March 1 The SE Campus writing center will have a grammar workshop 6-7 p.m. in ESEE 2227A. In addition to grammar basics, students will learn to check essays for syntax, mixed construction and other grammar issues.

March 2 TCC students are invited to participate in the Jim Bolen Math Competition at 2 p.m. The competition will be held in NTAB 2203C on NE Campus. Cash prizes and scholarships to four-year colleges and universities are available to top-scoring students. No reservation or application is necessary. March 5 The NE Student Government Association will host an introductory forum 2-3:30 p.m. in the Galley (NSTU 1506).

March 5 John Peter Smith Hospital Network will sponsor a Zumba class on South Campus 5-6 p.m. in the SHPE gym. The class will be presented by Zumba instructor Gracie Martinez to students, faculty and staff of all fitness levels. This is the fifth class of the eight-week series. No reservations are required, and participants should attend dressed to exercise.

March 6 Alcohol Awareness will be presented 10-11:20 a.m. in the North Ballroom on SE Campus. Arlington police officer Stacie Brown, who has worked in the DWI traffic division unit for more than four years, will discuss the legal issues and physical consequences of alcohol use.

March 6 Calming Test Anxiety, a lunchtime workshop series presented by TR counselor Lori Leach, will teach participants strategies to better control anxiety in test preparation and test taking. The workshop is noon-1 p.m. in the Discover Center for Academic Success (TRTR 3102).

March 6-7 The NE English department’s Creative Writing Club will host Share and Write: Poems noon-12:45 p.m. March 6 and 6:30-7:15 p.m. March 7 in NLIB Heritage Room. Students can bring an original poem to share and then participate in an exercise to write a new poem.

March 6-7 A free statistics workshop presented by TR math professor Vinh Nguyen will be 1-2 p.m. in TREF 7336 on TR Campus.
