The best shooters on NE Campus set out to prove their skills during the annual free throw and 3-point contest Jan. 29 with two unexpected winners.

In the free throw contest, participants took to the free-throw line and attempted 10 consecutive shots.

NE student Chelsea Seifert handily won the event, scoring nine out of 10 baskets.

“The guys were all pretty embarrassed about that,” said NE health and physical education instructional assistant Laura Bradford. “They weren’t expecting a girl to win.”

In the 3-point event, each player rotated around the 3-point line, taking five shots in one direction and then five attempts in the opposite direction.

NE student Thomas Swan won the competition by scoring five out of 10 baskets, putting the younger players to shame.

“They didn’t like that at all,” said NE student Luis Suarez about the younger guys in the contest. “A girl beat them at free throw shots, and an older man beat them in the 3-point contest.”

Players will just have to wait until next year to try and redeem their bruised egos.
