In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, TCC Health Services will sponsor a Lunch and Learn where a prominent Fort Worth oncologist will debunk breast cancer myths.

Alberto Parra, whose practice is with The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, will deliver a speech entitled “Breast Cancer Myths Busted.” The event is at noon, Oct. 17 in WACB 1123 on NW Campus. Lunch is provided.

Designed to raise awareness about the myths and facts of breast cancer, it is open to students, staff and faculty with an RSVP.

Dr. Parra offers advanced cancer treatment to patients in Fort Worth, according to the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders website. Parra is a native Texan, growing up in Arlington and studying at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He has been published in numerous academic journals and actively speaks to the community about the prevention and early detection of cancer.

Diane Alvarado, the administrative assistant for Health Services,  believed the event would interest students whose relatives are battling with breast cancer.

Faculty and staff can register in the Learning Center and students can register by calling Health Services at 817-515-7672 or emailing nw.healthservices@tccd.edu. RSVP by Oct. 11 to reserve your spot, Alvarado said.
