New entrances and traffic lights on SE Campus designed to provide quicker access and added safety could shave minutes from busy schedules.
Preparation for an additional entrance on Southeast Parkway has begun with an expected completion date of May 12, said SE Campus dual credit/career/campus services director Mike Cinatl, who oversees the project.

The project totes a price tag of about $400,000 and is contracted by Chambers Engineering.
“TCCD did contract for a traffic/safety report regarding the entrance to the campus,” Cinatl said. “The result was the need for more entrances and the traffic signals. We had several days where Arlington police officers were out to both help with traffic flow and to observe the congestion.”
During peak traffic times, it is not uncommon for those traveling south on New York Avenue and turning left onto Southeast Parkway to wait through three red lights.
One solution for time-crunched students was to detour through the filling station to avoid the New York Avenue turn signal.
“We are currently working with the city of Arlington in getting permits to have traffic lights installed at both the present New York Avenue entrance and the main entrance to campus on Southeast Parkway,” Cinatl said. “We anticipate that these installations will also happen sometime this summer.”
