Reduced bus fares for TCC students were made available starting Aug. 29, making it easier to commute to and from campus for less money.
TR student development services director Mayra Olivares-Urueta said multiple benefits come from having bus fare reductions made available to students.
“Most importantly, this reduced fare ID card might make it more economically feasible for students to make it to class thereby reducing class absences and truancy,” she said. “By making it to class, students may be more likely to remain engaged and active in their coursework.”
Olivares-Urueta sent emails to all TR students the same day bus passes were available.
“We posted fliers around campus and also provided this information during the first few days of the semester by word of mouth,” she said.
“We continue to provide the information to any students who stop by the Student Life Center interested in bus passes and bus information.”
Students who didn’t purchase passes at the beginning of the semester can still get them by going to the Intermodal Transportation Center at 1001 Jones St. or the T’s administration office at 1600 E. Lancaster Ave., Olivares-Urueta said.
“Students must present a valid TCC student ID to be eligible to purchase their reduced fare ID cards,” she said.
TR student Jenny Davis said ticket reductions for students are useful.
“I think that it’s great,” she said. “I’m good with discounts, and I think, as a student, school is hard enough. And if discounts for the buses makes it easier to get from there to here, then that’s good.”
TR student Corey Bloodworth said reduced fares overall are helpful for the students who don’t have their own means of transportation.
“If it’s helpful for other people, then it’s good for the campus to give students a discount,” he said.
Both TR and South campuses have direct bus service.
