When it comes to Major League Baseball, April usually means one thing, and that’s opening day.

Many fans, after waiting months from the end of last season, get excited and want to watch the new members of the teams as well as the veterans.

This year, Texas Rangers fans who are part of the TCC community have high hopes for the team after acquiring several new players this offseason.

“I enjoy going to opening day every year,” TR student Amber Walton said. “My family has made it a tradition, and it’s a lot of fun. Besides the game, the food is what I look forward to the most because those stadiums have all sorts of goodies.”

The feeling in the stadium on opening day with a packed house is like no other, Walton said.

“Even though a lot of people hate on the Rangers for their recent struggles, they are still my team,” she said.

The Rangers have failed to make the playoffs over the last few years, and many questions surround the coaching staff.

“Last year, the fielding wasn’t too great, but I believe the additions of shortstop Corey Seager and second baseman Marcus Semien will help tremendously,” TR student Cynthia Brown said. “Not only that, but their batting abilities will contribute nicely as well.”

Brown said she watches almost every game and is excited about their potential, but she sees one flaw that needs addressing.

“I think the Rangers should try and make moves to get pitchers because that is where they always seem to struggle,” Brown said.

After a large crowd at the home opener, many families were happy to have baseball back.

“There are so many things I love about baseball season,” TR student Emily Chastain said.

Chastain said she likes the long-time players as well as players who have been on the same team for many years.

“Teams and their fans across the league aren’t ready for what the Rangers have to offer this year,” she said. “I think our team is up there and can run with some of the better teams. It will be interesting to see how the standings are as the season progresses, but don’t be surprised if the Texas Rangers are up there.”
