Students interested in learning about paternity testing can attend the science club lecture series next week on NW Campus.
Dr. Phillip Williamson, director of the University of North Texas Health Science Center Paternity Lab, will speak at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in WSTU 1303.
Students will learn how paternity testing is done, from taking the samples to conducting the entire procedure.
Williamson, who holds a doctorate in molecular biology from UNT in Denton, will also address the technology behind paternity testing, the process for analyzing DNA, decision-making and educational requirements for careers in the paternity-testing field.
The Futures in Science Club sponsors the lecture, which is a continuation of the series presented each semester.
“Our last lecture had about 40-50 [students], and I am hoping this one gets 30 or so,” Eileen Preston, associate professor of biology, said.
The lecture is free and refreshments are provided.
