South students gobbling for food bank

By Emily Couchman/reporter

South Campus will host its 12th annual Gobble Wobble Nov. 17.

The 2.7-mile walk helps promote health and wellness, but it also supports the Tarrant Area Food Bank with canned goods donated by those who participate.

The walk is open to all TCC students and faculty with the donation of five cans per entry.

“Five cans is not a great expense,” said Kevin Kinser, Gobble Wobble board member and health and wellness associate professor, “but it can make a great impact on our community.”

All donations will be sent to the food bank to help relieve the increased need for food around the holidays.

The walk has different categories and divisions. So whether prepared to run or walk, participants can find several age groups competing with both male and female categories.

The winner of the walk/run will receive a grand prize of a turkey with the runner-up receiving a Cornish hen.

The first 200 registered will receive an authentic Gobble Wobble 2010 T-shirt.

Last year, Gobble Wobble raised almost 2,200 pounds of food, yet the organizers hope to raise more this year.

“I think it is cool that we are able to give that amount,” Kinser said.

Registration will begin in the SHPE gym at 8:30 a.m. and the walk at 9 a.m.

“I think it’s a wonderful way to not only get active but to help those in need,” Kinser said.

Gobble Wobble is sponsored by South Campus’ physical education department, student activities and community outreach.

For more information on the Gobble Wobble, contact South Campus student activities, Kinser or Bill Nix, HPE instructional aide, at 817-515-8223.
