Health Web site opens Sept. 1

A new online magazine called Student Health 101 will be available Sept. 1 to help students with health issues.Pat Marling, NE health services coordinator, purchased a TCC subscription to the online magazine, which is used at colleges around the United States.

“Students will love how interactive and current the Web site is,” Marling said.

The interactive magazine is personalized for each college. Students can post from the Web site onto their Facebook, Twitter or e-mail. The magazine has places where students can write about their own experiences and problems. Students can set up an e-mail subscription on the front page.

“It will benefit students because it’s easy to access and it includes valuable information on how to be a useful college student as well as useful health information,” Marling said.

Much like an online Ikea catalog, the pages can be turned left and right by arrow buttons and can jump to certain stories by clicking the subject.

The magazine runs monthly throughout the year.

Marling said if the online health resource is a success, then the school will subscribe for another year.

Once opening up the Web site, students can learn about easier ways to enjoy their lives. In the September issue, stories discuss healthy cooking, workout routines, professor’s expectations, sexual assault prevention and meditation as well as other topics.

“I am excited to be able to offer something that could potentially reach so many students,” she said.
