Guest speaks empowerment

An education leader, author and public speaker will lecture about well-being and creating the world one wants Oct. 21-22.

Charles Hopkins, United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization chair, is an advocate for education for sustainable development for United Nations University, the National Board of Education of Finland, the Association of Peruvian University Rectors and the Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences.

The lecture, Well-Being, For All, Forever: Creating the World We Want, will address the concept of well-being and how one can work toward creating the world they want to live in for themselves and for future generations.

Hopkins helps education officials and teacher education institutions reorient entire school systems to address sustainability. He is also the author of a textbook on ecology, contributed to other books and has been featured in a PBS documentary about educational sustainable development.

The architectural technology program and the TCC behavioral and social science departments on South Campus are sponsoring the event.

The free event is open to the general public.

Hopkins will speak on NE Campus 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 6-7:20 p.m. Oct. 21 in Center Corner (NSTU 1615) and on South Campus 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 in the SREC Recital Hall.
