NE offers 8-week session in stagecraft

By Dylan Bradley/ne news editor

Stagecraft I is returning to NE Campus for the second eight-week spring session after an eight-year absence.

Discontinued in 2006-07 on NE because of low enrollment, the resurrected course will offer students the opportunity to study a variety of skills.

Curriculum will include the application of aesthetics of design including physical scenery, lighting, costume, makeup and backstage organization, according to the TCC course catalog.

“The course features projects that guide the student through the theatrical design process while introducing the student to realizing a design from the ground up,” said instructional associate Laura Mahon.

Students will also learn all aspects of a costume shop, get an introduction to sewing, basic electricity, lighting and sound theories that enhance a design, she said.

Student projects for the class will be used in NE drama productions, Mahon said.

The class is recommended for drama, radio/TV/film students and anyone who deals with putting sets together, Mahon said.

Registration for second eight-week sessions is open until midnight March 10.

The course is also available on other campuses.
