NE to hold seminar on Alzheimer’s

Those faced with caring for elderly can find information on NE Campus Sept. 6.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia: What It Is, What It Isn’t and How To Manage It will be presented 1-4 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111).

Sponsored by the NE continuing education and mental health departments, the seminar features Kristin Martin-Cook, UT Southwestern Alzheimer’s Disease Center, and Judy Budlong, Alzheimer’s Association.

The seminar will have two presentations for counselors, social workers, students in allied health professions and families needing help because of chronic illness.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia 101 includes discussions on recognizing dementia and its the types, understanding the stages, diagnosis and misdiagnosis and the other issues the symptoms indicate, and determining when memory loss is a warning sign. Treatment and Research will cover early detection strategies, dealing with behavior, treatment options, latest medication clinical trials and future treatment possibilities.

The program is also open to the public at $20 for professionals and $10 for students. Seating is limited, so call 817-515-6657 for reservations.
