Coaches can help with managing money

TCC students and community members can get financial guidance on TR Campus.

The YWCA financial empowerment program started on TR Campus about 10 months ago and has helped students make budgets, financial coach Sean Fanning said.

“We focus on helping individuals understand where they are at financially, their potential benefits and establishing goals,” he said.

The financial coaches can help develop a monthly budget that can lead to financial stability. Students who receive their school refunds can have one of the coaches help them create plans for them to make that money last, Fanning said.

“Financial issues don’t get in the way of success,” he said.

Financial coaches can also assist students in setting goals for the school semester.

“It is a very client-centered program,” he said.

Coaches listen to the need of the clients and what they want to accomplish. From there, a budget plan is set up.

All information given to the coaches is kept private between the client and the coach.

“Confidentiality is what we work with,” he said.

The YWCA financial empowerment program also offers individual development accounts. These matched savings accounts can help students reach big financial goals such as going back to school, starting a business or buying a house, Fanning said.

Financial education classes with information on developing spending plans to manage money and invest for the future are also available.

The financial coaches are located in the TR financial aid office, but their services are open to any TCC student.

For more information, contact a YWCA financial coach at 817-332-6191 or moneycoach@ywca.org.
