NE drama club hosts coffeehouse of talent varieties

By Bethany Narvaez

A coffeehouse sponsored by NE’s Delta Psi Omega drama club Nov. 4 featured a variety of performances.

Students displayed their wide range of performing arts talents.

Musical numbers ranged from popular Broadway shows such as Hamilton to today’s top hits likeSomeone Like You” by Adele. Some students were accompanied by recorded music while others played their own instrument, such as guitar or piano.

An improv troupe performed comedic sketches that included audience participation. The host for the evening performed a large variety of comedic storytelling such as “The Muppet’s Crucible,” in which he read excerpts from the literary work in the voices of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

Students also presented original slam poetry performances addressing current social issues such as feminism, gender roles and racial equality.

Donations of canned goods were accepted at the door to benefit the NE Food Pantry. Delta Psi Omega hosts a coffeehouse every semester with open auditions for all TCC students. The next drama club event will be student-directed plays Dec. 13.
