Managing one’s time, self-care vital all year

By Raegan Scharfetter

The end of the year is a great time to practice self-care, a South Campus counselor told students Nov. 22.

Nicole D’Alesandro presented a workshop on how to take better care of oneself and put a plan in motion.

D’Alesandro talked about how physical, emotional and spiritual self-care are all important to be healthy and happy.

“School finals and the holidays are two big stressors in students’ lives, which is why it’s important to talk about the importance of self-care now,” she said.

Students also learned about time management and self-assessment. Students participated in a collaging activity where they take things they find from various sources and turn them into a goal sheet.

TR student Valerie Rosas said the workshop was very informative and that going over time management helped her.

D’Alesandro hopes the workshop opens the public’s eye about self-care and students realize the importance of putting themselves first.

“The goal for this workshop is to take the stigma out of self-care,” she said. “People tend to think that self-care is selfish when, in reality, you can’t take care of anyone else if your own battery is empty.”
