A professional band will walk students through rock ’n’ roll history during the Rockumentary concert April 10 on NE Campus.

The concert will start with music from the electric blues era in the ’40s and feature music up to the ’80s, NE music instructor Warren Dewey said.

Dewey is a former member of Crawfish and Friends, the versatile group of studio musicians that will perform during the concert. The band has played for two former presidents as well as in the home of Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones and has done numerous studio records together, two of which were nominated for Grammys, Dewey said.

“It’s not just a bar band,” he said.

The concert will give students the opportunity to hear an experienced, entertaining band.

The concert is not a lecture, but Dewey will give the audience information throughout the concert to help them understand the development of rock ’n’ roll music.

“Between each song, I do a brief comment mentioning the importance of the artist,” he said.

The concert was the idea of several music faculty, he said.

“It’s important for students to understand American popular music, not just rock,” he said.

Students can expect to hear music from Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, The Beatles and many other influential artists, Dewey said.

The Rockumentary concert provides something that’s a new experience for many students, he said.

“In teaching courses, I find that many students today surprisingly have never been to a live concert for various reasons,” he said.

Rock ’n’ roll music relates more to the music students are listening to today, Dewey said.

Rockumentary will begin at 7 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A).
