NE Campus is partnering with the Texas Pottery and Sculpture Guild to host the 2017 Best of Texas Clay exhibition, which will be on display in the J. Ardis Bell Library until Sept. 29.

“TCC has a vibrant arts community, at our Northeast Campus and beyond,” said NE art chair Martha Gordon. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the college and community to view the work of our state’s top ceramic artists.”

Ralph Tobin, a NE student and vice president of shows and sales for the guild, said working with clay is a connection to the past.

“Clay is one of the oldest mediums known to man to develop a piece of art, and it’s been like that for thousands of years,” Tobin said.

Also, the biennial Best of Texas Clay awards show took place in the library Sept. 16 with Linda Gossett taking home Best in Show for her work Bull in Drag with Vegetables.

Tobin said students need to understand humanities is more than doing art, writing and theater.

“If you’re good at what you do and committed to doing it, you can make a livelihood out of it,” Tobin said. “It’s a hard road to take, but it is possible that if you are dedicated and focused, you can make a living of it.”
