TR students form new Drama Club

The Aspiring Writers and Actors Club, a new student organization on TR Campus also known as the Drama Club, plans to perform public services, plays and flash mobs.

Faculty sponsor and adjunct Norah Swiney has several years of drama experience, producing and directing productions as well as teaching drama, acting and film. Angela Ferguson has presided over multiple clubs prior to her election as Drama Club president. Secretary Katie Hurrell, originally from the south of London, is a theater aficionado and actor, and treasurer Kristopher “JJ” Shofner belongs to five clubs.

Some proposed events include TR’s Trick or Treat on Main Street, where club members will appear in costume as a variety of well-known characters; an improv show in October, an open mic talent show and a Carol for Canned Goods drive in December.

The club is creating a one-credit-hour workshop at noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other plans are discounted tickets for group trips to local theaters for plays or musicals.

The club is currently looking for new members and has two officer positions — creative director and senator — open for application as well as deputy positions, which shadow current officers and would take the positions if that person could no longer serve. The club is also looking for creative minds that can help write material for various performances and brainstorm ideas for fundraising and other events.

The Drama Club currently meets at 3 p.m. Tuesdays in the cafeteria. Updated information will be posted both to the Blackboard group and its Facebook group: tccd.dramaclub.
