NE Campus’ Jingle Walk team ranked 16th out of 100 teams Dec. 5 and raised a total of $1,016 for the Arthritis Foundation. The next Jingle Walk is scheduled for Dec. 4. Those interested in participating this year can contact Lynn Fieser, team captain and NE health/wellness co-coordinator at 817-515-6958.

 

Today Students seeking a way to get better grades can attend the How to Get Good Grades in 10 Easy Steps seminar 12:30-2 p.m. in SACA 1120 on South Campus. Chris Carcerano, academic success center coordinator, will facilitate the event.

 

Today-Jan. 29 TR Campus Student Life Center is hosting a week of recruitment activities for campus clubs and organizations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Main Street, second floor of the Trinity River Building.

 

Jan. 31 The African-American Student Organization and the Greater Fort Worth Area Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club will collaborate to host the Vocal Competition 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Joe B. Rushing Performing Arts Center on South Campus. The winner will compete in the district competition March 12 in Shreveport, La.

 

Feb. 2 Those interested in learning what it takes to become self-employed can attend the Starting Your Own Business seminar 1:15-2:15 p.m. in SSTU Texas Room on South Campus. The event will be facilitated by Toni Allison, Knowledge of Success Inc. executive director and business owner.

 

Feb. 2 TR Campus Student Life Center is hosting Bank Day 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Main Street, second floor of the Trinity River Building. Representatives from various banking institutions will be available to answer questions and help students open special checking and savings accounts.

 

Feb. 2 NE Campus student activities and Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers will sponsor the student success seminar University Transfer Day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A). Universities and colleges including Texas Christian University, the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Arlington, Baylor University and Texas Woman’s University will hand out information and answer questions on how to transfer to their campuses.

 

Feb. 3 Flo Stanton, coordinator of health services on South Campus, will sponsor the Balancing Multiple Roles seminar 6-6:45 p.m. in SSTU Forum Room on South Campus. Any students having trouble juggling family life, work and school should attend the event.

 

Feb. 3 TR Student Life Center will present a note-taking skills workshop noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102, third floor of the Trinity River Building. The workshop will offers tips, techniques and strategies to take better notes during class lectures. 

 

Feb. 3 NE Campus student activities will sponsor Secrets of CampusCruiser 12:30-2 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Leigh-Anne Regenold, academic support services coordinator, will explain how to check grades, submit assignments, work with teams and use other hidden tasks on CampusCruiser. Refreshments will be available.

 

Feb. 4 The Student Life Center on TR Campus will offer Money Management noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102. Lucas Sawyer, a bank vice president, will advise students on developing and sticking to a budget, monitoring their credit scores and using credit wisely.

 

Feb. 4 NE Campus student activities and the history and philosophy department will sponsor a showing of Drums along the Mohawk 12:30-3 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615A). Due to copyright issues of the movie, only students enrolled in philosophy or history classes are invited. The 1939 movie, directed by John Ford and starring Claudette Colbert and Henry Fonda, is a frontier story about problems between colonists and Indians. Light snacks will be available.

 

Feb. 4 Students looking for the most appropriate way to communicate with colleagues and employers can attend the Effective Communication in the Workplace seminar 1-2 p.m. in SSTU Texas Room on South Campus. The seminar will be hosted by Monica Miranda, coordinator of student career and employment services on South Campus.

 

Feb. 4 Students seeking universities to transfer to or need scholarship information can attend the South Campus annual College Day Fair 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in SSTU 1114. University representatives will discuss degree programs, special programs and more.

 

Feb. 4 NE Campus student activities and the natural science department will sponsor the Brain Research Workshop 6-7 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Speaker Janet Zadina, a neuroscientist, will discuss studies she has conducted on how the human brain learns. She received her doctorate at the University of New Orleans and has experience teaching both high school and community college. Zadina has studied ways to enhance and energize instruction in the classroom.
