An informal sit-down style discussion by NW Career Services gave students career tips they could squeeze into their days.
Diana Wagner, an on-call employee with the career services department, and Cassie Fennel, a student development specialist, discussed the do’s and don’ts of resume building during Career Café, Oct. 8 on NW Campus.
“Jobs are hard to come by, and professional resumes give students an edge,” said Wagner when asked why resumes are so important in the current job market.
According to Fennel, employers want to see what is relevant to the job students are applying for, not that they played football in their freshman year of high school.
“Give employers the information they want to see while remaining truthful,” Fennel said.
Proofreading and spell checking from another party, such as the career services department, was also recommended by Fennel.
Career Café was set up to be a small group sit-down with students, which allowed them to feel more comfortable and encouraged discussion.
NW student Taylor Feuervacher thought the presentation was helpful.
“It was communicated very well, an overall good experience,” he said.
Fennel’s favorite part of Career Cafe was the direct contact with students.
“I love to interact with the students,” she said.
