Fashion Show

Fashion merchandising program students had the opportunity to walk the runway in business attire in front of an audience in NE Center Corner Nov. 5.

The Fashion Show and Seasonal Job Fair event is a collaboration between the NE career services and the fashion merchandising program to introduce the audience how to put together multiple styles from vibrant, elegant, girly or exotic with 12 basic pieces that should be in every girl’s wardrobe.

“We need to find out how clothes work for us and not that we work for the clothes,” fashion merchandising program professor Vickie Anderson said.

The students from three different classes: apparel and accessories marketing, fashion image and fashion retailing worked together for the show.

“Career services knew that we have talented students with great senses of fashion, and we want to give them the opportunities to gain some experience in their field,” NE career services coordinator Stephanie Rettig said.

Anderson hopes her students gain more experience from this event.

“They need to learn unity and how to work with their competition,” Anderson said. “In the end, no idea is the wrong idea.”

All of the looks in the show came from donations. Anderson said she hoped this would inspire the audience to stop overspending on clothes.

“I want people to have fun in life,” she said. “Instead of spending $100 on their wardrobe, they could use that money for their vacation.”

The event also had employers from BioLife and Olive Garden to give out flyers, pens and information on how to dress up appropriately for job interviews at their tables.

NE student Marian Kamugisha said the event was helpful for her in t deciding career options.

“I am a biochemistry student who minors in theater arts,” Kamugisha said. “It is great to learn to recycle clothes effectively if I decide to work with my minor.”

Kamugisha worked with NE fashion retailing student Carla Reyes to plan the shows general set-up.

“The show gives us ideas of what sells,” Reyes commented on how the show is helpful for her future.

Students can stop by the pop-up closets at NSTU 1506A to own these looks on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
