Physical efforts aid stress levels

Minds can be trained to recognize the positives in an environment of negative pressures.

At least that’s what student advisor Marjeanna Burge will teach students 12:30-1:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in NSTU Center Corner on NE Campus.

Burge will present exercises for coping with anxiety and stress, which she said is important to her because of her own feelings of helplessness during finals in college.

“You have to make a physical effort to relax,” she said.

She will demonstrate breathing techniques used to calm the mind and body.

Burge said she recognizes the importance of managing stress and anxiety because she had a difficult time in an elementary statistics class.

The built-up stress almost made her sick.

Burge said she doesn’t want students to ever feel so overwhelmed they can’t deal with it.

A light lunch will be served, so RSVP is suggested but not required to 817-515-6688.
