It was standing room only in the C.A. Roberson Theatre on SE Campus Nov. 8 when four dance companies from four TCC campuses performed Conversations in Rhythm.

The fourth annual collaborative concert among NE, NW, SE and South campuses showcased styles from modern to hip-hop and donated the proceeds to Dancers Responding to AIDS.

Mover’s Unlimited from NE Campus, Mosaic Dance Project from NW Campus, Rhapsody Movement Company from SE Campus and Continuum Dance Company from South Campus joined guest professional company Pedestrian Dance Movement for the concert.

NW student dancer Chelsey Johnson said she loves being on stage and that her company rehearsed together regularly.

“We had a lot of practices, a lot of working together as a team and unity, building each other up together,” she said. “We had great practices. The energy was high. When we were emotional, we were all there for each other. It was up and down.”

NE student dancer Lee Donna said her dance company experienced high emotions before going on stage.

“There were a lot of tears before the show,” she said. “It was very emotional for us because we all put our all into it.”

She said she hopes her performances connect her with the audience.

“Performing to me is like giving to the audience,” she said. “I want them to feel something and take something home with them and remember that.”

SE student dancer Kierra Barrett said the performance was good preparation for a concert later in the semester.

She said one of the biggest things she took from performing on stage was the relationship she felt with the audience.

“The joy of making other people smile and inspiring people with our dances,” she said. “It was a good overall performance from everybody.”
