Feb. 3 The Bridge Program will host How to Properly Advocate for One’s Self 2-3 p.m. in the Innovation Forum (WTLO 3101A) on NW Campus. Students will learn how to ask the important questions in class to help them improve and communicate more effectively. Feb. 3 The TR counseling center hosts Forming Study Groups 11 a.m.-noon in the TR Idea Store. Students can learn the benefits of working with a study group, ways to find peers with common learning styles and techniques to overcome scheduling conflicts. Feb. 3 Ask Gatekeeper Training will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the advising and counseling center (SACT 1429) on South Campus. South counselor Nicole D’Alesandro will teach students to recognize suicide risk factors and ways to properly handle potential situations. Feb. 4 TR Campus will host its Spring Club Crawl 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on TRTR Main Street. Feb. 4 NE student activities will hold a Student Organization Luncheon 12:30-2 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615A) to discuss changes in policies and upcoming events for student organizations. Feb. 4 Students whose feelings of nervousness sabotage their test scores can attend Calming Test Anxiety, hosted by the TR counseling center. They can learn how to relax during tests, control nervous thoughts and earn test scores reflective of their knowledge instead of their anxiety level. Feb. 4-5 NW’s Bridge Program and the Academic Learning Center will hold Using APA Style seminars at noon in the writing lab (WTLO 3411A). These seminars will review the guidelines on using APA style for writing. For more details, contact program coordinator Talisha Simpson at 817-515-7657.

Feb. 5 “Go Red” Heart Health Observance will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in health services (ESEC 2118) on SE Campus. Students will get information on heart health and can win prizes. For more information, call SE health services coordinator Liz Lowry at 817-515-3591.

Feb. 5 The Balancing Act is a personal success seminar that will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the advising and counseling center (SACT 1429) on South Campus. The seminar will teach students how to identify when their lives are out of balance and inform students on ways to deal with stress that comes from emotions, time constraints, relationships, health and money. Feb. 5, 12 The NE Campus math department will offer a series of free workshops to help students prepare for the Jim Bolen Mathematics Competition. The workshop will be held 2-4 p.m. Feb. 5 and 1-3 p.m. Feb. 12 in NTAB 2223. No registration is necessary.

Feb. 6 The SE dance program will host a capoeira class 10 a.m.-noon in EART 1101. Capoeira is a martial art form of weight shifts, kicks and dodges, transitions and movement vocabulary. The class is free, but financial donations will be taken for the SE Dance Scholarship Fund. Students can also donate an item for the Arlington Life Shelter. Feb. 6 Students are invited to travel with TR Campus to the University of Texas at Arlington for the Trinity River on the Go-UTA Maverick Experience. Participants can meet faculty, staff and students as well as many student organization representatives and tour the campus and its housing facilities. Students can visit the TR transfer center (TREF 1503C) to sign up and complete required paperwork. Transportation is provided, but space is limited, so RSVP soon. Feb. 8 Money Mondays: College Costs Workshop will be noon-1 p.m. in the Coach’s Corner (ESEE 1210). SE success coach Edward Hicks will inform students on ways to prepare for the costs of community colleges and universities. Up to 20 students may attend. Feb. 8 A Lunar New Year Celebration “Year of the Monkey” will take place 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the ESCT HUB on SE Campus. Students will learn how to write their names in Chinese calligraphy, receive fortune cookies and participate in games. Feb. 9 Managing Credit: Priorities and Pitfalls will be presented 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Community Room (NBSS 1103) on NE Campus. The program will cover how credit can affect one’s life, what one needs to know about credit scores and reports, how to keep one’s credit in good shape and how to avoid identity theft. Feb. 9 TR presents Transfer 101, the first session for the Trinity River Academy. This informational session will help prepare students to transfer to a four-year university and is open to all students, regardless of how many hours accumulated. Two sessions are scheduled per day, each in the Discovery Center (TRTR 3102) 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Feb. 9 and noon and 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10. Feb. 9 The National Society for Student Leadership will host a live web broadcast featuring American television journalist Juju Chang 6-8 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615) on NE Campus. Chang will present The Power of Your Story, which deals with quieting insecurity, facing biases and finding one’s voice. Light refreshments will be provided. Feb. 9 The TR counseling center will host Get the 411 on Academic Status and GPA, a workshop that teaches the importance of academic status and the value of continually tracking one’s GPA. Each academic status, such as good standing and probation, will be discussed in detail along with a quick and easy way to calculate the GPA. The event will be 10 a.m.-noon in the TR Discovery Center (TRTR 3102).

Feb. 9-10 Career services will host a Service Learning Fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Commons on SE Campus. Students can sign up with agencies for student learning hours or receive information on volunteering in the community. Feb. 10 The student success seminar Digging Out of Debt will be held 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615) on NE Campus. Randy Saleh, business assistant professor, will inform students how to properly use financial aid and get out of debt. A light lunch will be served. Feb. 10 Julie Smalley from the National Marrow Donor Program will be on NE Campus in the NTAB lobby 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to recruit bone marrow donors. Bone marrow transplants are life-saving treatments for those with leukemia, lymphoma and other diseases. Certain health requirements must be met to donate. Feb. 10 Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive 9 a.m.-4 p.m. outside of the Student Center on NE Campus. Healthy donors must be at least 110 pounds, 16 years of age and have a valid ID. Fifty-six days must have passed before the previous donation, and it is recommended that one is hydrated and has eaten prior to donating. For information, call NE health services at 817-515-6056.

Feb. 10 NW Campus health services will hold a lunch discussion about nutrition and weight management noon-1 p.m. in WACB 1123. Attendees will hear from Baylor Scott & All Saints Medical Allied Professionals team member Elle Lockhart who will speak about ways mental health can negatively affect the body. Feb. 10 The TR counseling center will sponsor Time Management: Tick, Tock! 11 a.m.-noon in the TR Discovery Center (TRTR 3102). This workshop will equip students with the tools needed to take back their lives and balance their time. Feb. 11 Love That Smile With All Your Heart will be presented 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Darlage Center Corner (NSTU 1615) on NE Campus. The program will teach students how dental health can also affect heart health and will include a complimentary heart-healthy lunch. Reservations are required. Feb. 11 Better Ways to Stress, presented by the TR counseling center, will be held 11 a.m.-noon in the Idea Store (TRTR 3102). Students can learn to use stress to be more productive, healthier and happier. Contact the TR counseling center at 817-515-1055 for details.

Feb. 12 Students can travel with TR Campus to the University of Texas at Dallas for Trinity River on the Go-UT Dallas Preview Friday. Students will learn more about UT-Dallas as counselors provide detailed information about admissions, financial aid, scholarships and campus life. UT Dallas will provide application fee waivers for the upcoming school year to students who attend. Transportation is provided, but space is limited, so RSVP soon. Feb. 12 SE intramural sports will start off the semester with a dodgeball tournament at 1 p.m. in the gym. Students can sign up at the captain/free agent meeting at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 in the cardio room.
