Sept. 11
The NE Campus Language Institute kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month with The Current Political Scene in Mexico 6:30-9 p.m. in Center Corner (NSTU 1615). Rocío del Carmen Dalel Cortés, executive director of the Instituto Mexicano de Español y Cultura, will speak about the current political climate in Mexico following the national election July 1. TR Campus students, faculty and staff are invited to volunteer for the Botanical Research Institute of Texas service project 2-5 p.m. Sept. 20. Volunteers will work outdoors removing invasive plants from the native prairie as well as inside documenting plant specimens. Those wishing to participate can sign up at www.tccd.student-hub.com. The SE Campus library will host The Literature of Prescription: Charlotte Perkins Gilman and “The Yellow Wall-Paper.” Developed and produced by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, the traveling exhibit consists of six screens that will explore the 19th century feminist author’s semi-autobiography and her experiences after being prescribed the rest cure. Books on the subject will also be displayed.

NE Campus will present Student Success Seminar: Navigating myTCC and WebAdvisor 12:30-1:30 p.m. in NSTU 1615. Jeannete Jacobs, academic support services coordinator, will help students familiarize themselves with TCC’s learning management system. The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive and marrow donor registry 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on South Campus. The blood drive will be on the SSTU patio, and the marrow registry will be in the SSTU foyer outside 1102.

The NW Veterans Connect kickoff will be 12:30-2 p.m. in the Michael Saenz Conference Room (WACB 1123). The program will focus on helping students connect to faculty who have served as well.

Students are invited to Habitat for Humanity’s service project Weatherize a Home. The event involves repairing exterior and interior fixtures, painting and replacing parts. The project will be on East Cannon Street in Fort Worth. Volunteers can sign up to participate at tccd.student-hub.com. CPR classes will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in WTLO 4104-C on NW Campus. Participants will learn life-saving skills in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and will receive a certificate upon successful completion. Cost is $15. Registration is required. The Bill of Rights will be exhibited in the SE Campus library. The historical document, photographs and other constitutional amendments will be presented on 12 freestanding photomontage posters.

The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program “Brown Bag” Series will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. in WTLO 4104C on NW Campus. The series will cover the importance of self-care, nutrition and physical activity for people who are diabetic and those who are at risk (one does not have to be diabetic to attend). Anxieties about math classes will be relieved in the South Campus Math Anxiety workshop, which will meet twice (noon-1 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.) on Sept. 11 and noon-1 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the Texas Room (SSTU 2210).

Miller will discuss positive reactions and resolutions for dealing with conflict. The session will give students insight into how to effectively manage conflict in different situations. SE Campus will host a Club Expo 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 13 and 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Commons. Students can speak with representatives about more than 40 campus clubs and organizations.

Employers on Campus, a NW Campus event 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the WTLO lobby, will give students an opportunity to network with employers and learn more about what types of jobs they are promoting. This venue will focus only on companies that have current job openings. Students are encouraged to dress professionally as they would for job interviews.
