Native American Heritage

Nov. 19 NE students can learn about the history of most modern drugs, their derivation from nature and the use of plants and herbs in teas, poultices and other medicinal purposes 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Larry Darlage Center Corner on NE. Nov. 20 SE student activities will celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a tepee demonstration 9:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. in the Commons on SE Campus. Students will have the opportunity to view the tepee and watch a traditional Native American dance. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, call student activities at 817-515-3595.

Nov. 20 Students can listen to Native American flute music performed by former student Alisa Tomlinson and view her personal collection of Native American clothing 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. in the Student Center on NW Campus.

Nov. 20 The Judith J. Carrier Library on SE Campus will sponsor Native American Civil Rights Movement 1-2:30 p.m. in the silent study area. This will be a discussion given by history associate professor Greg Kosc about the role of Native Americans in the Civil Rights Movement. Nov. 25 TR students can enjoy a flute music performance and presentation in the Riverfront Café 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in celebration of Native American Heritage Month. Alisa Tomlinson will perform the flute, and NE academic advisor Marjeanna Burge will discuss history, myths and culture in her presentation Creating Understanding from a Native Perspective.
