In the last intramural event of 2011 on NW Campus, Block or Bleed was crowned as champions of volleyball.
Block or Bleed defeated How Do You Like Our Sets two games to none in the championship to claim the title.
Trent Lee, who used his jump serve and powerful spikes, led his team, who did not have a loss in the tournament.
Lee said his warmup routine helped set his team up for success.
“During warmups, I do all the big spikes,” he said. “It keeps attention away from the other guys on the team that can spike, so they don’t expect it from them.”
Lee said winning is good but isn’t the most important thing.
“I want to win, but I just want to go out there and have fun,” he said. “That’s what this [intramurals] is really about.”
How Do You Like Our Sets player Patrick Bittrick said his team’s having only five players as opposed to other teams’ six had affected its chances.
“With only five [players], you’ve got to move a lot more,” he said.
Bittrick said he was disappointed in the loss.
“I’m bummed about losing,” he said. “But against Trent’s [Lee] team, it was kind of expected. Those guys are really good.”
How Do You Like Our Sets reached the championship after advancing to the final game of the losers bracket in the double-elimination tournament.
There, it played Faculty/Staff, a team comprised of the physical education instructors on campus.
Faculty/Staff was out of sync in the meeting and was shutout two games to none.
“We should’ve won that game today,” NW intramural coordinator Ryan Stewart said. “That team was not better than us. But I’m all right with third place. We will just have to wait till next semester when we play again.”
