Feb. 17 Chris Carcerano, center for academic success coordinator, presents How to Talk to Faculty and Others 12:30-2 p.m. in SACA 1120 on South Campus. The goal is to teach students not just to solve a conflict but to express classroom issues effectively by e-mail, by telephone and in person.
Feb. 17 The TR center for academic success presents Study Skills noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102. The workshop is designed to help students improve their learning, understanding and grades.
Feb. 18 NE Campus career and employment services will hold Writing the Employment References List, an information session, 10 a.m.-noon in the NSTU hall near the Bookstore. Representatives will provide information and discuss the best ways to write reference lists on job applications and resumes.
Feb. 18 Tracy Williams, NW career and employment services coordinator, will present Four Steps to Choosing the Career That’s Right for You 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Feb. 18 NE Campus student activities and financial aid will hold Financial Aid 101 12:30-2 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Financial aid director Bill McMullen and administrative office assistant Trenton Price will discuss basic information about financial aid. Topics will include application instructions, available grants and loans, hurdles students might run into when trying to receive financial aid, the process, options students have and the difference between dependent and independent students. Lunch will be provided.
Feb. 23 TR Campus will present College 101, a workshop to help students understand and successfully manage their college planning processes, noon-1 p.m. in TRTR 3102.
Feb. 23 The TCC Computer Users Group Genealogy Special Interest Group will hear Ila Johnson discuss DNA as it Relates to Genealogy 9-11 a.m. in NSTU Center Corner on NE Campus.
Feb. 23 NE Campus student services and library will sponsor Research Made Easy 12:30-2 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Learning center coordinator Anne Drake will discuss steps students can take to make research easier including the best resources to use for the topic and on-campus areas available to help students.
Feb. 24 Students who want to get a head start on the financial aid process for summer or fall can attend FAFSA, a workshop that will explain the standard application that determines qualifications for federal aid. The session begins at noon in TRTR 3102.
Feb. 24 Monica Miranda presents Resume Writing Workshop 1-2 p.m. in SSTU Texas Room on South Campus.
Feb 24-25 Representatives of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force will be on NW Campus to provide information about current programs and benefits offered by the armed forces. On Wednesday, military representatives will have tables in front of the Bookstore 9 a.m.-1 p.m. On Thursday, pull-up competitions and the Dallas Mavericks cheerleaders will be in the area between the Student Center and WACB 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
March 1 Students wanting to sign up for TCC study abroad program in Costa Rica must do so to avoid $100 late charges. Students can improve their Spanish at the University of Costa Rica-San Jose, take field trips to the surrounding country and interact with people in San Jose.
