Women’s History Month calendar

Now-March 4 The Women in New Roles Art Show celebrating the program’s 32nd anniversary is on view in the Carillon Gallery of the Joe B. Rushing Center for the Performing Arts. The South Campus gallery opens 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

 

March 4 Carolyn Brooks, author, trainer, corporate consultant and president of Simply Divine Communications, will present 7 Habits of Highly Effective Women … The Power of Pink. Tickets are $5 for students and $7.50 for the public. Advance reservations are required. Proceeds benefit the Women’s History Month Scholarship Fund. March 4-30 An exhibit on Women’s Imprint on History will be on view in the South Campus Jenkins Garrett Library lobby area.

 

March 4 Women’s History Month Film Festival on South Campus presents Salt of the Earth 2-4 p.m. in SACD 1402.

 

March 8 Trinity River Campus celebrates Women’s History Month with a film series. First in the series, American Experience: One Woman One Vote, will be shown all day in the dining area of the Riverfront Café.

 

March 10 To support Women’s History Month, Julie & Julia will be shown 11:40 a.m.-1:40 p.m. in the SE Campus Bistro. Two different generations of women come together in this film to do something they love — cook. Going on 30, a woman decides to undertake a year’s adventure in culinary arts and cook 524 different recipes in Julia Child’s cookbook. Even though the women never come into contact in this film, it shows passion, fearlessness and confidence, which make anything possible. This film is rated PG-13 and will run for 123 minutes.

 

March 16 TR Campus will show the second film in a Women’s History Month series. The Life and Times of Frida Kahlo will be shown all day in the dining area of the Riverfront Café.

 

March 23 NE Campus student activities will sponsor Women of Color and HIV/AIDS 12:30-2 p.m. in NSTU Center Corner. Women’s studies graduate teaching assistant La Cisha Crear will discuss reasons women of color are more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS because of political, social and economic issues. March 24 Academic advisor Donna Gohlke will present Getting Out of the Box for the Young Women’s Leadership Forum 6-7 p.m. in SSTU Texas Room on South Campus.

 

March 24 TR Campus will show the final film in a series dedicated to Women’s History Month. Women, Leadership, and Politics: A Rising Tide? will be shown all day in the dining area of the Riverfront Café.

 

March 24 Chris Carcerano, center for academic success coordinator, presents PowerPoint for Beginners 12:30-2 p.m. in SACA 1120 on South Campus.

 

March 24 Donna Gohlke, South Campus academic advisor, presents Young Women’s Leadership Forum: Getting Out of the Box 6-7 p.m. in SSTU Texas Room on South Campus.

 

March 25 Women’s History Month Film Festival will show Good Hair 2-4 p.m. in SACD 1402 on South Campus.

 

March 25 SE Campus welcomes Chelsea Brown, political science professor at Southern Methodist University, who will discuss the impact of war in Beyond the Battlefield: Women and the Effects of War. The presentation will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. in ESEE 1304.

 

March 25 SE Campus will show the final movie in a film series dedicated to Women’s History Month. Iron Jawed Angels will be shown from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the ESEC Bistro.

 

March 29 Senior and Junior Velocity Dance companies will present Dance Reclaimed: A Look Back at the Last Five Years 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center on South Campus.

 

March 31 NE Campus hosts an afternoon tea on How to Get the Most Out of Your Health Care 12:30-1 p.m. in the Center Corner NSTU 1615A. RSVP is required by calling student activities at 817-515-6644.
