Students learned how to develop their organizational skills during an Adulting 101 workshop Oct. 17 on SE Campus.

The workshop, hosted by SE life coach Melanie Mendez, introduced prioritizing, balancing work and life and living a person’s best grown-up life while transitioning into adulthood.

Adulting is defined in the dictionary as: “the practice of behaving in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially the accomplishment of mundane but necessary tasks.” Mendez believes having an early grip on life can make the transition a simpler task.

“I’m simply wanting to guide students into a transition towards adulthood in an organizational way that allows the student to reach their full potential,” she said. “This workshop will demonstrate the needed skills and time management in order to accomplish this.”

Students who attended the workshop had an idea of what to expect, but the word “adulting” really caught the attention of the SE students encouraging them to explore that curiosity.

“I was intrigued when I first read the title to the event and decided to look into it more,” student Rosa Ramirez said. “It was an immersive experience into the fast-changing world of college adults. Not only was I able to learn time management and organizational skills, I actually had fun doing these tedious little tasks.”

Student Irving Miranda said he learned a lot from the presentation.

“The workshop was beneficial to me because it was able to refresh some of my already known skills and I was able to learn new skills to keep motivated throughout the semester,” Miranda said.
