Individuals entering the South Campus Student Center April 3 could visualize each booth as a possible employment candidate.
“Every spring, the career center sets up a job fair for students to find employment and even internships before the end of their spring semester,” said Monica Miranda, head of the career and transfer center. “We open the job fair up to the community as well, but we are mostly targeting TCC students.”
Miranda said the fair is a great opportunity for students who are unemployed or looking for a new career.
“Our job fair just has so many companies that students can even end up finding an internship,” she said. “It was a great success this year with the number of companies we achieved to bring to the job fair. A lot of companies signed up in advance, but even more came just days before.”
Companies ranging from dental offices to banks had their booths set up with all types of brochures and steps to get students signed up with their company.
“We are mainly looking for personal bankers, and with our company, it is not as traditional as most banks,” said Christine Castaneda, host for the First Convenience Bank booth. “Our personal bankers do sales and transactions. We are open seven days a week and are mainly looking for part-time positions.”
Castaneda said the First Convenience Bank is mainly targeting college-level students for their part-time positions because they are more flexible and easier to work with.
Students filled the South Campus cafeteria determined to seek their next employer.
“The job fair is a wonderful idea, and I am so glad the South Campus holds this event every year,” said student Trang Church. “I have come every year so far because I am really in need of a job.”
This was student Luis Ocanas’ second time to attend.
“I came not only to find a job but an internship,” he said.
Currently majoring in accounting, Ocanas said he wants to start interning as soon as possible.
Several employers such as Chase Bank, Rent-A-Center, the U.S. Army, Goodwill, Avon, AutoNation, and FedEx participated, finding several students who fit their ideal candidate.
