Carillon Gallery presents the closing reception and awards ceremony 6-8 p.m. April 29 for the 2010 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition in the Joe B. Rushing Center for the Performing Arts on South Campus. All pieces are by students enrolled in 2009-2010 South Campus art classes. Normal gallery hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Admission is free.

Boys’ Life, NW Campus’ newest production, follows three friends as they flounder through life after college. The play will run at 7:30 p.m. April 28-May 1 and 2 p.m. May 2 in Theatre Northwest. Tickets are free for TCC students, faculty and staff, $3 for non-TCC students and senior citizens and $6 for the general public. Because of the play’s strong language, the production is inappropriate for anyone under 17.

Stage West presents The Lonesome West, a dark comedy that takes place in the small village of Leenane. It’s not a typical Irish village since a few suspicious deaths, including an accidental shooting, have occurred there. The play provides twists and turns, darkness and laughter and a few touching moments. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $20-$30. Theatre Arlington presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. This Tony award-winning musical will take the audience inside the world of six self-promoting adolescents competing for the spelling bee title. The show is best for ages 12 and up as it contains mild language and adult innuendos. Tickets are $22 with discounts for students, seniors and groups of 10 or more. Now-Fall
NW Campus art department has brought sculptures by several well-known artists to an outdoor exhibit in front of the Fine Arts Building. The 2010 Sculpture Walk includes works by TCC faculty including Mark Mueller, Angel Fernandez, Mike Pavlovski and Chris Cunningham. The sculptures will stay on NW Campus for different lengths of time, some for up to a year.

 

April 29
South Campus string faculty member Hsin-Yi Wang presents Student String Studio Recital 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall (SREC 1110) on South Campus. Admission is free.

 

April 29
SE Campus will hold its third annual Chalk About It event 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the front entrance to the E-wing. The cement on the outside of the building will become a canvas for artists who will create artwork with sidewalk chalk. Registration runs through April 27. April 29-May 2
The Pantagleize Theatre Co. presents The Puppetmaster of Lodz honoring those who lost their lives during the Holocaust. The play will be performed at the East Fort Worth Montesorri Academy. Performances will be 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. All tickets are $10 with discounts for large groups. Bass Hall presents the University of North Texas One O’ Clock Lab Band, featuring new material to be included in the follow-up to the ensemble’s Lab 2009 recording. This Grammy- nominated ensemble will also perform favorites from the North Texas Lab Band Library. General admission is $30 with a $5 discount available for faculty, staff and students. The Sammons Center for the Arts presents its annual Artistic Director’s Concert. Performers include the Sammons Jazz Ensemble with artistic director James Gilyard on bass, Andrew Griffith on drums and Robert Aberg on guitar. Pianist Monty Alexander is the featured artist and will perform with the ensemble. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Brown, Quincy Jones and Bill Cosby. Tickets are $35 for the public and $30 for members and include complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, light appetizers and valet parking. May 5-8
NE Campus drama students will produce the musical Lucky Stiff at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee in the NE Playhouse. The musical is based off the book The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo written by Michael Butterworth. Harry Witherspoon, a shoe salesman, runs into some inheritance but has to do his dead uncle a favor before he can receive it. The show is free for TCC students, faculty and staff, $4 for other students and seniors and $6 for the general public.
