NW Campus dance will present Mosaic in Motion, a project filled with several different choreographed dance performances.
“The Mosaic Dance Project will showcase an evening of eclectic works choreographed by NW dance faculty members,” said Lacreacia Sanders, associate professor of dance.
The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21, highlights the Mosaic Dance Project, the touring dance company for NW Campus. They will have several dance routines from group to solo performances.
“In this concert, there will be several group pieces I will be performing in, and I will also be performing a solo that I choreographed,” said Tiffany Willis, who has been dancing in Mosaic for three years.
The show will not just focus on one type of genre.
“It showcases a lot of different styles of dance including modern, hip-hop, jazz, even some improv dancing,” said Andrea Paris, another performer in the Mosaic Dance Project.
Not only have the dancers practiced since summer for three hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, but they practice outside of rehearsal time as well.
“We also like to get together outside of school from time to time when one of us needs help to go over all of our dances to make sure that we know we are prepared for rehearsal,” Willis said.
Several pieces are self-choreographed, but a well-known choreographer also helped the group with a routine.
“We had the pleasure of having Lamesha Vine come in from Los Angeles to set a dance piece on us,” said Willis about the professional dancer/choreographer. “We were all very excited.”
Fellow dancers said they wanted to show audience members that they have worked hard on their performances.
“What we do is perform a few pieces that we have been working on from the beginning of the semester,” performer Melissa Hudgins said. “It’s kind of like our coming-out performance to show everybody what the Mosaic dance company is all about,” she said.
Different age groups can enjoy the Mosaic, she said.
“There are a variety of pieces, which shows the diversity in this year’s group,” Hudgins said. “And it will be a fun, enjoyable family show.”
The concert will last until about 9 p.m. in WTLO 1108. No RSVP is required.
Tickets are $5 for general admission, $1 for students with ID and free for TCC faculty and staff.
