Students to hear about breast cancer

By Joshua Knopp/tr news editor

A breast cancer awareness seminar will be held noon-1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in Action B on TR Campus.

The speaker, Annette Lam, is a nurse working with John Peter Smith Hospital and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Lam will speak specifically on the risk factors for breast cancer and the various types of breast cancers possible.

She will also teach students what to look for with self-checks.

To help with the demonstration, Lam will use breast models that have cancerous lumps in them, along with a fibrocystic breast model — a common condition that isn’t cancer but can feel similar — and a healthy breast model.

Lunch will be served at the presentation.

Lam will also be available 10 a.m.-noon in TRTR Main Street to answer general questions about breast cancer.

Students may call Veronica Warrior at 817-515-1167 for more information.
