Dodgeballs to take flight in NE gym

The game that has long been a middle school barometer of manliness, separating the weak from the strong and the dorks from the jocks, is showing up on NE Campus.

The HPE department is holding a dodgeball tournament Nov. 4. The tournament will start at 1:45 p.m. and run until 3 p.m., said tournament coordinator Kim Kerby-Dickman.

“It’ll be in the gym,” she said. “And if we get a lot of teams, we will get one of those gym dividers to have two games going at once.”

Prospective players can get a team together or attend as a free agent.

“People can come in as a team,” she said. “Or they can just come in, and we can put them on a team.”

The tournament’s format will depend on how many players and teams sign up, Kerby-Dickman said.

“We’ve never had more than four teams,” she said. “But we have different ways to do it for however many teams we get.”

If there are only two teams, then it’ll be a best-of-five format, she said. If there are three teams, it’ll be a round-robin tournament, where everyone plays each other.

Kerby-Dickman said if there are four teams, the losers from the first two games will play each other, and the winners will battle it out to be the champion.

Sign-ups will start in the gym 15 minutes prior to the start of the tournament.
