Carving a pumpkin could carve its way into someone’s wallet with up to a $100 first prize this Halloween.
NE Campus’ pumpkin carving contest next week will be free to enter and open to all students.
Entries should be delivered 7:30-11:30 a.m. Oct. 31 to NFAB 1314 on NE Campus and will be judged at noon. Celeste Neill, NE food services manager, will judge the event. Prizes will also be awarded to second- and third-place winners.
This will be third year that the pumpkin carving contest will be hosted by the NE Art Association, but it will be the first year that it is open to all students.
NE student Chris Cassell, an EMS major and art minor, won last year’s contest. Her carving consisted of two pumpkins that portrayed a complex scene from the cable series Dexter.
“I didn’t even expect to win,” she said.
Last year, roughly 75 entrants participated in the contest that was exclusive to students within the art department, said Scott Parker, NE Art Association advisor.
“The pumpkin carving contest is a great opportunity for students to be creative and have fun in a non-academic setting,” he said.
