Women’s Leadership Forum designed for WINR students, NE president to address group

News brief by Mario Montalvo/ne news editor

The South, SE and NE programs of Women in New Roles will join to host the Women’s Leadership Forum with guest speaker NE President Larry Darlage.

A reception will take place 6:15-7:15 p.m. Nov. 8 in Center Corner (NSTU 1516A) on NE Campus with Darlage presenting his speech, Forks in the Road to Success, at 7:30 p.m.

WINR is a college-credit program that helps women transition back into college life. The program teaches them skills necessary to be successful.

In addition to résumé writing and interviewing skills, it helps build confidence through studies in self-awareness and communication, according to WINR’s website.

“Most of the women in our program are transitioning from life experiences and are starting fresh in an academic environment,” said NE adjunct psychology instructor Sherri Mata.

The event is business dress, so it gives members the opportunity to practice presenting themselves in a formal setting, said NE student development coordinator Amity Womelsdorff.

Students can network with current and past participants of the program as well as supporters and faculty.

Mata said the guest speakers have always been enlightening and motivating.

“The women from my classes have always expressed how uplifting the speaker was and how motivated they felt after the forum,” she said

The event is free, and non-members are invited to attend. For more information, call 817-515-6644 or 817-515-6688.
