SE Campus will present the third in a series of money management seminars designed to help students evaluate and prioritize their spending.
Extreme Money Management 3 — Needs vs. Wants: Prioritizing What Counts will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in the North Ballroom.
Jacquelyn Warmsley, SE Achieving the Dream coordinator, said the holidays are coming up, and it is a time of overspending not just for students but others as well.
“It [the seminar] is timely for that reason,” she said.
The event is a collaborative effort between SE Achieving the Dream, advising, financial aid and student activities departments.
Data have shown that students sometimes take more financial aid than is actually needed for books and tuition, Warmsley said.
Also, information shared from advising shows that financial problems create stress that can affect students in the classroom.
“A lot of students struggle to meet financial obligations out of school,” she said.
During the free, one-hour event, students will discuss the difference between necessities and desires or preferences and learn how these things vary over time and context.
They will also test their knowledge in an interactive game.
Default aversion consultant Thresa Tyrus and regional account executive June Perry will also answer students’ questions.
Credit will be given on continuing education transcripts for those who are attending.
