Dozens of balloons filled with wildflower seeds will be released in the air on NW Campus April 19 in honor of Earth Day. When they pop, the seeds will scatter across the campus grounds.
The Earth Day Festival, an event sponsored by the S3 Science Seminar Series and NW student activities, is an all-day occasion for students, faculty and staff to learn more about the planet and its resources.
Science department chair Dana Berg said there will be fun, earth-friendly activities going on throughout the day.
“We’ll [also] have speakers discussing water treatment, recycling and other earth-related topics,” she said.
The speeches start at 9:30 a.m. in the Michael Saenz Center (WACB 1123). Free hot dogs, chips and beverages will be available in the Student Center, and volunteers will pass out other freebies.
Kroger has donated recycling bags, and trees will be available for people to take home and plant. Students also can plant trees on campus and try solar oven-baked cookies if the weather permits.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their old cell phones, ink cartridges and small electronic items for recycling.
