For NE Campus’ first daylong student success orientation, 900-1,000 packed the Student Center and nearby meeting rooms Sept. 3.

Orientation to College: Access and Engagement consisted of keynote addresses, smaller seminars, booths offering information on student services and organizations, free food and door prizes.

Student Success Vice Chancellor Joy Gates Black and immigration specialist Dr. Juan Hernandez addressed the entire group. Faculty and staff conducted workshops to help students learn about campus resources, receive advice on successful completion of classes and get more involved in student life.

Throughout the day, students received gift cards, T-shirts and backpacks. The big prize came at the end of the day when a laptop computer was awarded to Elaine Wright, a first-time-in-college student and mother of eight.
