Dance

April 13-14 The TCC Northwest Dance Company is hosting Momentum: Raising the Barre, a spring formal dance concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center Scott Theatre. The concert will feature dancers of all ages, levels and abilities. General admission tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the NW business services office.

April 16-17 Making Waves With Dance, a series of outdoor dance performances choreographed by NW students, will be held at 10 a.m. April 16 and 1 p.m. April 17 beside the NW Campus lake. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Amy Sleigh at 817-515-7174.

April 26-27 Dance Works will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Roberson Theatre on SE Campus. About 150 students will perform in the concert, which will showcase SE dance students and feature the SE student dance ensemble, Rhapsody Movement Company. Now-April 15 The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents Focus: Katie Paterson. The artist is known for her installations that deal with astrology, nature, geology and ecology. Admission to the exhibit and museum is $4 for students with ID and seniors 60+, $10 for adults and free for children under 12 and Modern members. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday and Saturday-Sunday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. For more information, go to www.themodern.org.

Now-April 28 The Fort Worth Community Art Center will host numerous exhibitions, including the 2012 FWCAC Best of the Biennial. Artists chosen by an Exhibition Advisory Panel of local artists and professionals, featured in this year’s FWCAC Biennial will be on display. Artist Cynthia Hammett will show Into the West, oil paintings that represent West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Relative Motion by Michelle Kaytaz will display paintings of motion and visual energy, and 15 Fort Worth women will present their work in the FW15 to show visual art in diverse themes and interests. Now-May 13 Romance Maker: The Watercolors of Charles M. Russell is on display at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth. More than 100 of Russell’s watercolors of the Old West will be showcased. The museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the exhibition and museum is free.

Now-June 3 The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is displaying Glenn Ligon — America. The exhibit shows 25 years of the artist’s work from his student days to the present. The pieces include paintings, photography, prints, sculptural installations, drawings and the artist’s recent neon reliefs. Admission is $4 for students with an ID and seniors (60+), $10 for general admission and free for children 12 and under and Modern members. April 13-14 NE Campus presents three Gilbert and Sullivan operettas 7:30 p.m. in the NE Playhouse. Tickets are free.

April 16 The NE Campus Percussion Ensemble Concert, under the direction of Warren Dewey will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the NFAB Theatre. Admission is free.

April 17 NE student Kayla Scales-Evert will present her Sophomore Piano Recital at 7:30 p.m. in College Hall (NCAB 1111).

April 19 Sammons Center for the Arts’ Cabaret series presents Tatiana Mayfield. Accompanied by Sean Giddings, Mayfield will perform standards, Broadway tunes and torch songs. April 22 Edgefest 22 will be held at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco by radio station 102.1 the Edge. The Black Keys will headline the concert on the main stage along with Cage the Elephant, Cake, Garbage, Artic Monkeys and more. Gates open at noon. Tickets range from $50-$80, depending on section. May 2 The Mountain View College Choir will join the SE Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra for a free musical concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Roberson Theatre on SE Campus. Visitors can enjoy jazz, classical and operattas.

Now-April 14 Circle Theatre in Fort Worth presents The Whipping Man, winner of the 2011 New York Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Playwriting Award. The drama is set in post-Civil War Virginia. A Jewish Confederate soldier and two freed slaves reunite to celebrate Passover and uncover twisting secrets that could cost the men their freedom. The play contains strong language and is not suitable for children. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday with a 3 p.m. matinee Saturday. Now-April 22 Tambourines to Glory is on stage at the Jubilee Theatre in Fort Worth. This gospel musical concerns two women who run into the devil while trying to open a storefront gospel church in the middle of Harlem. Now-April 28 Artisan Center Theater has opened Oliver!, the musical version of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. The show follows the young workhouse boy as he escapes to London and joins a juvenile pickpocket gang. NE Campus theater student Zeke Branim is featured as Billy Sykes, the barbaric murderer who kidnaps Oliver to cover up the young hooligans’ criminal streak.
