Multiple Ford vehicles have become the target of car burglaries on NW Campus in the past three weeks, according to TCC police.
Four vehicles were reported with windows smashed out or locks jammed, said NW Sgt. Chanissa Dietrich. Items stolen include a checkbook, a stereo, tools and credit cards. All four burglaries happened during the day, and none of them have been the same model of Ford.
No suspect is known at this time.
Whether the burglaries are connected is uncertain, Dietrich said.
“It may just be a coincidence,” she said. “We’re really only looking at Fords, so it’s kind of hard to establish a pattern with that, but I think it’s something to know that all four of them have been the same make of vehicle.”
Dietrich said one of her fellow officers has contacted other police departments around the Metroplex and was told that vehicle burglaries are on the rise, especially at businesses right off Loop 820.
“I think sometimes people figure out how to get into a certain make of vehicle,” she said. “Since they’re all made the same, it’s a little easier to pick a certain type.”
The crime alert isn’t only for those who have Ford vehicles, Dietrich said.
The holidays are right around the corner, and that usually causes a rise in thefts and burglaries, so students and faculty should be cautious of what they keep in vehicles.
Officers will patrol the parking lots, but students and faculty are asked to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity to police dispatch at 817-515-8911 or 817-515-TIPS.
