TR students learned how to write an acceptable research paper at the MLA vs. APA workshop Nov. 3.
TR writing center instructor Samantha Windschitl explained the difference in the two styles of writing research papers and citing references.
“Students always ask, ‘Where do I get started?’” she said.
Students should become familiar with databases and citations before starting their paper, Windschitl said.
“TCC’s databases have condensed so much information for you guys. It makes it easy,” she said.
Windschitl projected the TCC library Web page onto a big screen, navigated students through the library database and demonstrated shortcuts.
“Databases will do your citations for you. All you have to do is copy and paste,” she said.
Windschitl explained how APA and MLA follow certain careers.
“APA is science-based, and MLA is used in humanities papers,” she said.
When asked how he felt about the workshop, TR student Quintin Hernandez said, “She is the best. I told her boss to never fire her.
