A NE Campus musical group will get on the wagon Nov. 19.
NE music instructor Diane Enger will direct Country Strings in its fall concert Get on the Gospel Wagon at 7:30 p.m. in the Birdville High School Auditorium in North Richland Hills.
Country Strings comprises credit and non-credit students who meet once a week.
“We play old country music, bluegrass and gospel tunes with traditional instrumentation — fiddle, banjo, mandolin, Dobro, guitar and upright string bass,” Enger said.
Enger, a NE faculty member for the past 20 years, said some members have participated in the group just as long. The experience of the group ranges from novice musicians to seasoned professionals.
“Each semester, we have new students join us,” she said. “Ages range from 18 to 60-plus.”
Enger said the most important thing about Country Strings is its giving attitude.
“I believe Country Strings has the biggest heart,” she said.
The group performs for retirement and nursing home patients on a regular basis as well as for memorial services.
“The students perform not just for entertainment, but to bring joy, peace and sometimes comfort to the community,” she said. “What special students!”
