Building student-teacher relationships subject of TR Campus lunch workshop

Talking to professors can be intimidating for some students and easy for others, but it can be important to all.

A faculty panel will give advice on building student-teacher relationships Sept. 18 on TR Campus.

The lunchtime workshop, Talking to Professors, will be at noon in TRTR 3102. A light lunch will be served.

Panelists will include Robin Birt, Chad Wooley, Meryl Cope and Mary French, said Stevie Blakely, coordinator of TR’s academic success center.

The faculty members will give advice, discuss student concerns and answer questions.

“Some students may have a lack of confidence and feel insecure,” Blakely said. “This is an opportunity for students to meet professors outside of a classroom environment and become more comfortable.”

The goal of the workshop, she said, is to build the students’ confidence while teaching ways to communicate with professors.

For example, if students receive grades they are not happy with, the workshop will provide solutions for approaching and consulting with their professors, Blakely said.
