Art students will bring artwork to police cadets in a brand new art gallery opening on NW Campus.
Skylight Gallery, in the WCJC entryway, will be dedicated this weekend.
Chris Cunningham, art instructor, said NW visual art students would create all artwork. The first pieces displayed include ceramics, mosaic wall art and one painting.
The displays will be up all semester and will rotate out at the beginning of each new semester.
Three NW students, Linsey Morgan, Kay Wells and Denise Anger, have ceramic pieces displayed in the gallery. Anger’s piece is a large honeycomb bowl.
Cunningham said because of the light in the Skylight Gallery, only a few paintings and photographs can be displayed. One of them is a copy of a Rembrandt self-portrait painted by Attchareepon, a NW student.
Cunningham said the wall pieces were originally located in the Fine Arts building. Malcolm Jackson, coordinator of the criminal justice training center, saw the pieces and thought they would be good for the Skylight Gallery.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place noon-3 p.m. Oct. 24. Cunningham will make a brief statement about the gallery. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and art students will provide some potluck dishes.
