A Sept. 9 workshop on South Campus provided students new to college life with suggestions and schedule books to help with college success.

Sandra Alicia Bermejo, academic advisor, led the workshop, reminding students that some of their previous study habits from high school would need to be fine-tuned and supplemented.

“[In college,] the workload is heavier and more intense,” she said.

Students should start everything as early as possible, such as registration, an appointment with an academic advisor and class assignments, Bermejo said.

Starting assignments two weeks or more in advance would prevent lots of stress and problems in all situations, she said.

New students can also make use of the services and facilities, consisting of tutors, centers and various clubs on every campus.

Fliers were available for numerous student activities around South Campus.

Students also received a TCCD 2013-14 Student Planner, which contains maps for every campus and contact information for the majority of departments and centers on each of those campuses.

Bermejo said recent and new activities offered could most likely be found in the Names & Events section of The Collegian.
