50 Cent not only came out with the new album Before I Self Destruct, but he also produced, wrote and directed a new movie with the same title.
50 plays Clarence, an older brother and son who is great at basketball and could move on to the big leagues.
Early in the movie, Clarence hurts himself in a usual game among friends, leaving him unable to play professionally.
His life goes downhill from there.
Clarence opens the door to two cops who tell him and his younger brother, Shocka, that their mother has been killed in a crossfire.
Clarence then has to provide for the two of them. Unfortunately, he loses his job soon after the family loss and receives an eviction notice the same day.
With things becoming increasingly bleak, he seeks other means of income. Clarence accepts a job from a man named Sean. Clifton Powell plays Sean and has Clarence killing people for large sums of money.
Life for Clarence and Shocka turns from horrible to great as Clarence brings in the money and killing becomes second nature for Clarence.
Shocka, played quite well by Elijah Williams, is accepted to a school better fit for his genius-like mind, and Clarence gets a girlfriend.
From there, Clarence’s life seems to go well for the duration of the movie.
But as the movie continues, the plot unfolds to reveal a surprising ending that leaves most audience members aggravated because it’s not the ending most people would expect.
Despite the strange ending, the movie is sure to be a big hit among fans, and possibly even for those who aren’t fans of 50.
Before I Self Destruct is basically for those who like the kind of movie that shows the dark side of street life.
